Leads in Contacts Hub

When leads are captured through form tracking or the lead() function, they appear in your Usermaven Contacts Hub. This is your central location for viewing, managing, and analyzing leads.

Accessing leads

To view your leads, log in to your Usermaven dashboard and navigate to Contacts Hub in the left sidebar. Leads appear alongside visitors, users, and companies.

Lead profiles

Each lead has a profile that includes:

Contact information: Email address (primary identifier), first and last name, company name, phone number, and job title if provided.

Activity history: See everything the lead has done on your website including page views, events and actions they’ve taken, first seen and last seen dates, and total session count.

Lead source: Understand how the lead found you through first touch attribution, last touch before conversion, UTM parameters, and referrer information.

Custom properties: Any additional data captured via the lead() function or form mappings.

Filtering leads

Use filters to find specific leads:

  • By property: Email contains “company.com”, company equals “Acme Inc”, first name starts with “J”
  • By activity: First seen in last 7 days, visited pricing page, submitted more than one form
  • By source: UTM source equals “google”, referrer contains “linkedin”, campaign equals “product_launch”

Lead timeline

The timeline shows a chronological view of the lead’s journey, helping you understand what content resonates with leads, how long leads take to convert, and what path leads take before conversion.

Today ├── 2:30 PM - Viewed /pricing ├── 2:28 PM - Viewed /features ├── 2:25 PM - Lead captured (Demo Request form) ├── 2:20 PM - Viewed /product Yesterday ├── 4:15 PM - Viewed /blog/getting-started ├── 4:10 PM - First visit (from Google Ads)

Lead segmentation

Create segments to group leads with similar characteristics. For example:

  • High-intent leads: Visited pricing page AND viewed more than 5 pages AND first seen in last 30 days
  • Enterprise leads: Company size is “500+” OR company is in enterprise list AND lifecycle stage is not “customer”
  • Newsletter subscribers: Lead source equals “newsletter” AND lifecycle stage equals “subscriber”

Exporting leads

Export your leads for use in other tools by going to Contacts Hub, applying any filters to narrow down leads, clicking Export, and choosing your format (CSV). Exported data includes all contact properties, first/last seen dates, source information, and custom properties.

Understanding contact types

TypeDescriptionIdentifier
VisitorAnonymous person browsing your siteAnonymous ID (cookie)
LeadPotential customer who provided emailEmail address
UserSomeone who signed up for your productUser ID
CompanyOrganization associated with users/leadsCompany ID

When a visitor becomes a lead (provides email), their anonymous activity is linked to the lead profile. When a lead becomes a user (signs up), their lead activity continues in the user profile.

Privacy considerations

When handling lead data, only capture necessary information you’ll actually use, respect opt-out and unsubscribe requests, use HTTPS and follow security best practices, comply with GDPR, CCPA, and other privacy regulations, and define and follow data retention policies.
